Must-Have: Adult, NICU, and Pediatric experience Description:
Department: Respiratory Therapy Must have experience with Adult,
NICU, and Pediatric patients. The unit typically provides 36-42
treatments per 12-hour shift or 12-14 treatments every 4 hours.
Candidates with RRT certification are preferred but CRT
certification will be accepted with at least 3-5 years of
experience. For Adult care, certifications required are BLS and
ACLS. For Pediatric care, certifications required are BLS and PALS.
For NICU care, certifications required are BLS and NRP. The types
of patients managed include Adults across all floors, Pediatrics,
and NICU. The team primarily covers inpatient needs. Respiratory
Therapists for Pediatric floors will also cover adult patients,
while those on Adult floors will not cover Pediatrics. Candidates
must have at least 2-3 years of experience if RRT, or 3-5 years of
experience if CRT. First-time travelers are welcome. If working in
NICU, experience with NAVA (naturally adjusted ventilatory assist)
on specific ventilators is required. Job duties include managing
all Respiratory Therapy equipment, treatments, transport, and ABGs.
Travelers will assist with intubations but are not required to
perform them independently. A hospitalist or intensivist is
in-house 24/7. There is a lead Respiratory Therapist on each shift
who covers the emergency department, manages daily staffing, and
acts as a resource. Managers and supervisors are available during
the day for additional support. Typically, there are 15-20
Respiratory Therapists on day shifts and 10-12 on night shifts. The
equipment used includes adult and pediatric ventilators, BiPAPs,
high flow devices, cough assist machines, and other therapeutic
devices. Schedulers will make the shift schedule, and efforts will
be made to accommodate requests where possible. Every other weekend
work is required, as well as holiday coverage if present. There are
no call or standby call requirements. Travelers may float to other
facilities as needed. Scrub color is flexible as long as it is
clean and professional. Typically, 2-3 shifts of
department-specific orientation are provided, with additional
shifts for specialized care if required. A radius rule applies, and
candidates' permanent addresses may be necessary for
compliance.
